Kitten Care
Our kittens are PKD1, FIV, and FeLV negative. Documentation is provided at the time of adoption. These are examples of our kittens.
This is a Tiffany/Leo Boy.
With each kitten, you will receive a soft carrier, a toy, sample foods, and instructions for taking care of your newly adopted pet. We only feed our cats Life’s Abundance. Go to our home page and click the Life’s Abundance logo to learn about this food.
Taking Your Kitten Home
The most common question is what to feed your kitten when you get them home. Follow these recommendations.
- We will send you home with Life’s Abundance and Instinctive Choice wet food.
- Put out the Life’s Abundance dry food so that they have access to it 24/7.
- Feed them 1/3 of a can of Instinctive Choice wet food every other day, twice a day.
- Continue this until they are six months old.
- After six months, feed them wet food once a day, three days per week.
- Monitor their stool. If it starts getting soft, stop the wet food for two or three days.
When adoption day arrives, you will be given the following items to make the transition of your new family member as smooth as possible:
- A Pet Carrier
- Medical Record
- Supply of Food (Life’s Abundance and Instinctive Choice)
What To Do
Before the kitten comes home, spend some time getting the house ready for it to scout every inch of the house. You can save yourself some anxious moments by doing the following:
- Make sure the kitty cannot get into any household chemicals, cleaning supplies, or pesticides. In case of poisoning, contact the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Animal Poison Control at (888) 426-4435.
- Limit the kittens to one room when left alone and then let them branch out to the rest of the house. Remember, they love to explore and will find every hole in the house. Sometimes, it is not so easy to get them out. Bathrooms, kitchens, and utility rooms are the worst small places for them to hide and find harmful chemicals.
- Check for access holes for hot tubs and Jacuzzis. Check around your refrigerator, washer, and dryer.
- When feeding your kittens, use glass, ceramic, or stainless-steel bowls for Life’s Abundance dry food for the kittens to graze on 24/7. This is key for them to reach their full potential for health and growth at this young age. Feed the Instinctive Choice wet food in the morning or evening, whichever fits your schedule more. They will come to expect it at whatever time you set. Feed them wet food every other day or three times per week until they are six months old. Monitor their stools, and when they get soft, withhold the wet food for three days and then continue.
- Things to look out for: If your kitten is not eating, drinking, using the litter box, playing, or grooming, then they need to be looked at by a vet immediately. Most kittens go home and never experience any of this. If the kitten is experiencing diarrhea, have them checked, and don’t let them suffer for more than two days because it can cause dehydration. Remember, a kitten being sick for one day is like you being sick for a week untreated.
- Lastly, you should make an appointment with your vet to have the kitten checked out within three days of getting them home. Take a stool sample to be checked for worms or parasites. You should have them checked every other month during the first year.
During the first and most important year of life, a kitten’s immune system develops, and most of its growth occurs during this period. Make sure your kitten is not exposed to any worms or parasites. You can bring these to your home on the bottoms of our feet, so we recommend treating your kitten with Pyrantel every other month.
Food Choice
Food choice for your Shaded Silver Persian is as essential to their physical health as eating the right food is for you. Remember, most commercial treats are junk food full of sugar. In specialty and big-box stores, the food you buy is at least six months old or older. The reason is that they have to make large batches to be able to put them on shelves in every town across the country, coast to coast, and border to border. This can cause the food’s nutritional value to decline.
Meanwhile, Life’s Abundance is only six weeks old when you open the bag. It has no dye or preservatives, unlike the food you buy at the supermarket. They use human-grade ingredients, all raised here in the USA in human-grade facilities. It has no by-products like beaks and wings that may be swept off the floor.
At our cattery, we leave Life’s Abundance out all day, every day, for the cats to graze on. We also feed them Instinctive Choice three to four times a week as a treat. They love it, and it’s good for them.
Additionally, cats must have plenty of fresh water every day. It also needs to be changed daily, and the bowl needs to be cleaned regularly so it does not become a germ farm.
Wet vs Dry Food
Wet food is not designed to be the only thing that you feed your Shaded Silver Persian. It will not satisfy their daily calorie requirements. While some vets say you should only feed your kitten wet food so they get enough water, you should consider two things. First, your kitten’s teeth will need more cleaning. Second, they will have to eat three times as much as wet food to get the nutrition that a premium dry food will give them, which may lead to obesity.
Your cat’s growth and health will come from the best dry food you can give them.

Supplements
We use the Life’s Abundance supplements and highly recommend them. The same brand also has treats that taste good and are nutritious.
Ear Care
You will not have to clean your kitten‘s ears often, but if you do, Life’s Abundance Ear Care Formula works great to dissolve the wax and cleans up really easily. Our cattery owner, Brenda, loves this product.
Eye Care
Shaded Silver Persian have varying degrees of eye staining. If done as needed, cleaning them takes a very short time. If you let it go, it can take a few days to a couple of weeks to get them back in good shape.
This is what we do to clean the eyes: We start by cleaning their eyes from any dried tears with a Q–tip using warm water. Once you have the eyes cleaned, you can use Eye Envy products, which you can purchase on Amazon.com. We use liquid and powder. Use a Q-tip or makeup removal pad to saturate the stain with the liquid. Then, use a Q-tip or pat on some of the white powder. Leave it on the stain to help lighten the area.
Bathing and Drying
Your kitten has already had more than one bath, and we do use a blow dryer. We cannot say they liked it, but they have already been exposed to bathing and drying. When they get dirty, wash them. We do not bathe our cats more than once every two or three months unless they get unusually dirty. Some cats keep themselves so clean you may never need to bathe them.
Before bathing your Shaded Silver Persian, make sure you have combed out all the mats. See our home page for the only four combs you will ever need for your kitten. Additionally, we use Life’s Abundance Cat Shampoo and Bath Fresh Mist between shampoos.
The Process
Gather What You Need
- Life’s Abundance Cat Shampoo and Blue Dawn. Dilute the Blue Dawn by 50% with water.
- A large towel.
- Put on your Kevlar vest, heavy leather gloves, and a helmet. Just kidding!
Before Washing.
- Clip your kitten’s nails.
- Comb them out completely. Any knots will become worse with washing, so it is best to comb them in advance. Let them totally relax and then proceed. Do these maybe an hour or so before the actual bath.
- Put your kitten in the sink and wet the hair using lukewarm water.
- Wash them twice. First, use the diluted Blue Dawn and rinse it out thoroughly. Then, wash them with the Life’s Abundance shampoo and rinse them thoroughly.
Throughout this whole process, keep in mind how warm you are keeping your kitten. Do not get them too hot, especially with the hair dryer.
Rinsing
Each time you rinse, it has to be completely. Rinse, and then when you think you are done, rinse some more. It is not good to leave soap in your kitten’s hair. They will lick it off, and it will dry their skin out.
Drying After the Bath
Do not get them too hot with the blow dryer.
Grooming

Litter
We use Dr. Elsey’s Precious Cat for Seniors. That is all we use, and we love it! You need to at least give this litter a try. Here‘s the secret: you only put 2″ max in the pan. It will last two weeks before it needs to be changed. This way, it is no more expensive than any other litter you choose. Go to Dr. Elsey’s to check out this product.
